Now that we’ve all had time to recuperate from our virtual New Year celebrations, it’s time to start thinking about the upcoming year. A lot of us learned quickly what was important in 2020, whether that is family, physical health, mental health, relaxing, or finances, it has given us time to reflect. We know that even though the new year started, things are as tumultuous as ever- so Of Mercer wanted to help you with a little list of house-keeping reminders to start the New Year off right. We hope this year treats you well!
Clean Your Space
In Covid days, the space we live in is our whole world. We work there, eat there, relax there- celebrate wine o’ clock there! So, it is important that the environment around us evokes comfort. One easy way to do this is dedicating a day or two to cleaning it from the inside out; throwing away or recycling miscellaneous items and dusting nooks and crannies can change the way you interact with your daily work. If you have the means, consider getting new pieces for your space like coffee table books or kitchen supplies. Little changes in what you’ve been seeing since quarantine will go a long way in changing your mindset!
Make Plans to Visit Family or Friends
Of course, one of the hardest parts about Covid-19 is being away from loved ones. The good news is that there is a vaccine on the way, which means that it will be safer to meet them. Although this may not be in the immediate future, we have high hopes for what this means down the line! What better way to celebrate and look forward to this than planning a trip to see your loved ones? Whether it is a hiking trip or visiting your loved ones at their homes, making the plan will put that Type A energy to good use.
Set Your Year's Goal
Many people make daily practice of setting our goals for work, and if you ask them, they’ll definitely say it helps keep them on track with their work. However, we can’t forget to do this for our personal goals! If it is working on ditching a bad habit, cultivating parts of your personality that you love, or committing to a hobby, the new year is a fresh start to make that happen. Write down the parts of yourself that you’d like to pay attention to this upcoming year, and check in on them every month or so- you will be so surprised to see the results by the time next December comes around.
Reconnect With an Old Friend
It’s easy to forget to reach out to someone you were once close to. Caught in the minutiae of everyday life, we tend to feel restricted by time. The new year is a time to reflect on who in our life helped us become who we are and get where we are. Take just a few minutes this upcoming weekend to reach out to those people that have been a big part of your life. Once you connect, you’ll both be so happy to catch up.
Schedule a Doctor’s Appointment
Whether it is a virtual call or masked-on in person, it is still important to take care of your health. There are many resources that can provide help with scheduling your next appointment and making sure it is a match with your insurance. Zocdoc is a great tool to use to help you find any type of doctor near you that takes your insurance- it even shows which doctors do virtual appointments!
