5 questions for you...
1. What's the best advice you’ve ever given or received?
To make time for myself! As a naturally very driven type A personality, I definitely succumbed to the "non-stop hustle" mentality that is so dominant in today's cultural narrative. This was the case whether I was at a small nonprofit, a big firm, or a rapidly growing startup: I constantly overworked myself and said yes to every new request. When I became my own boss, it actually got worse until a few very smart people in my life encouraged me to take time away from work, and to make sure I am listening to my own needs, even if that is just unplugging sometimes or getting a few extra hours of sleep on the weekends.
2. How would you describe your personal style?
I've always had a hard time with this question because it honestly varies so widely, but I think I just thought of my most accurate answer: Expressive. I am all about wearing whatever allows me to express who I am and want to be on any given day. Sometimes that is minimal; sometimes it is chic and classic; sometimes it is over the top color and print a la Iris Apfel. Whatever look or vibe or goal I'm feeling, I want to be able to channel it with my outfit.
3. What was the last thing that made you laugh out loud?
I'm really happy to be married to a man who constantly makes me laugh and laughs along with me, even when things could easily be scowled at instead. He just sent me a James Baldwin quote about New York - "Whoever is born in New York is ill-equipped to deal with any other city: all other cities seem, at best, a mistake, and, at worst, a fraud. No other city is so spitefully incoherent" and I actually laughed about how very real that is (even as a transplant!)
4. What’s a productivity tip you swear by?
Changing my location! As a self-employed blogger, I love being able to stay in and work on the couch with our cute pup next to me on snow days, but if I feel myself getting distracted or lacking inspiration, I gather up my laptop and chargers and head to a coffee shop for a boost of caffeine and a change of pace. It almost always is the thing I need - in fact, I am typing this at a cute coffee shop right now😊!
